Pelješac & Ston Full Day
Wine country, medieval walls and fresh oysters — the complete peninsula
The Pelješac peninsula is about an hour from Dubrovnik and most visitors never reach it. That is a shame, because it contains two of the best things in the region: the medieval walls of Ston and the wine country of Dingač.
You start the morning in Ston — a small town with disproportionately large walls, built in the 14th century to protect the Ragusan Republic's salt pans. Walk a section of the walls, then head five minutes down the road to Mali Ston bay, where oyster and mussel farming has been practiced since Roman times. The farms sit in a protected bay where fresh water from the Neretva meets the Adriatic salt. The oysters taste like the sea they come from — find a table at one of the waterfront konobas and eat with a glass of Pošip.
The afternoon takes you across the spine of the Pelješac peninsula to the Dingač wine region. Dingač is Croatia's first controlled wine appellation — steep south-facing vineyards directly above the sea, producing Plavac Mali reds that are dense, warm and unlike anything you will find elsewhere. Two winery stops with tastings, then the drive back along the coast as the light softens.
This is a long day and a good one. Bring an appetite.
Questions about this tour
Can we do Ston and Pelješac as a half day?+
Not comfortably. Ston alone is an hour each way from Dubrovnik. Add time for the walls, the oyster farm and lunch, and you are already at 5–6 hours before adding Pelješac wine country. We offer Ston as a standalone stop on custom routes, but the full Pelješac experience needs a full day.
How many wineries do we visit?+
Two, typically in the Dingač and Postup areas. We can include Grgić Vina if you are interested — let us know when you book and we will confirm availability.
Is the oyster tasting included?+
The tasting is paid directly at the farm or restaurant, usually €10–15 per person. It is not included in the tour price, but it is very much worth it.
What time does the tour start?+
We recommend starting at 8:30–9:00am from your hotel. This gives you the morning light in Ston, a relaxed lunch in Mali Ston, and the afternoon in wine country without rushing.
Is this tour entirely within Croatia?+
Yes — the route goes via the Pelješac Bridge, which opened in 2022 and connects the peninsula directly to the Croatian mainland. No border crossings, no stops in Bosnia.
